Hi, I am Emrah Yalaz.
My career started in trading and investment banking.
I quickly switched to software in late 90s.
Between 1998 and 2009, I led the product at QRM, building enterprise software focused on data analytics, solving large-scale quantitative problems in valuation, portfolio optimization, trading behavior and risk management. We sold first Saas to global banks, and held a monopoly position in mortgages (70%+ mortgages in North America, ~$2 trillion in annual volume)
In 2003 I started training software engineers and quants on metric-driven product management, quantitative Agile/Lean methods, tactical application of Design Thinking, and sales/marketing content architecture. Since then I trained ~1500+ students from top universities (e.g. MIT, Stanford, University of Chicago, Oxbridge, IITB, Tsinghua University, Bogazici, ODTU).
In 2010 I started working with technology startups in San Francisco.
In 2013 I started teaching part time at Boğaziçi University Computer Engineering Department.
In 2014 I co-founded String Ventures.
Currently I work in three domains:
1. Running String Ventures
2. Teaching and speaking about startups, product engineering, design thinking, quantitative agile, and lean software development.
3. Running accelerator, design thinking, and product engineer training programs for top technical Universities and Fortune 500-caliber companies.
I live in San Francisco Bay Area, Istanbul and Cape Town.
